Later that night, I had three more versions of the Baba Yaga cocktail. Since I ended up adding alcohol, I didn't want Clara to try it. I'm sure it was fine, but there'd never been a hybrid vamp baby, or any babies at all, and I didn't want to take unnecessary chances. I decided to throw it out to the bar to see who wanted to try it.

The angels were off doing whatever angels did, and I had an alert set on all entrances now to inform me whenever anyone with angel blood except Lucifer tried to get in. I'd know the second they stepped onto the property.

The cocktail itself wouldn't give our plans away. It was an experience, not a potion to make you do anything, and it wasn't tailored to Baba Yaga's essence or anything.

The evening started a little happier. Gary kicked off the festivities with a rousing CCR playlist.

The orders came in fast and furious, and the dice-playing demons had a bit more pep in their steps as they set up their game. Even Keelie poked her head out to say hello. She’d done that less and less these days, and I knew our time together grew shorter and shorter. I needed to find a way to contact Lachlan. Technically, he was her sovereign now that Ariel was in Michael’s clutches.

I waited until the bar was full. Clara and Dave sat together at a table—her nursing a cherry sprite and Dave sipping on water. To my surprise, Calamity was still here, sharing the table with them and keeping a watchful eye on everyone.

I went table by table cataloging every single demon and paranorm inside, and I realized every single person here had helped us fight off the angels last time. A chill went down my spine, and I wondered if maybe now was not the time to keep secrets.

Keeping that thought in mind, I walked over to Clara, bent down, and whispered what I was thinking. Dave and Calamity heard me, and when I rose, all three seemed in agreement.

Squaring my shoulders, I walked over to the middle of the dance floor, temporarily sealed all the exits, locked Jesus in his room and blocked the sound out, and amplified my voice.

“I seek aid,” I began.

Every single being in the room stood up. Tears sprang to my eyes at the sight. I put my hand over my heart and tried to speak again.

“We are in the midst of a war. It might not seem like it right now, but while we sit here nursing our drinks and playing our games, the angels plot and scheme. The Sea King, the Vampire Queen, and I have come up with a tentative plan to secure the release of your leader—”

The place went berserk with cheers and shouts. I waited for them to die down, my entire body alight with hope.

“And strike a devastating blow in the heart of the angelic leadership. But we cannot do it without your help.”

“What about the angels who come in here all the time?” someone shouted from the back.
